Ireland has some amazing dive sites. Classics include Killary Harbour in Mayo, and the Skelligs and Ballin Skelligs Islands off Kerry. Ireland’s location on the most western edge of Europe and on the Continental Shelf, mean it’s perfectly situated for scuba diving. The standard, quality and visibility of the waters vary greatly depending on location; there’s something here to encompass all individual requirements.
It’s very easy to travel from one part of Ireland to the other. No matter where you are in Ireland you’ll easy reach your chosen dive site within a day. This gives divers the opportunity to travel to a dive site and get in at least one or more day’s diving. Normally one week-end is enough.
In Ireland the dive season normally starts in March and ends in October. The water temperature ranges from about 10C in March to about 16C in September when the water is at its warmest. After this, the waters can be quite cold. It is of course, possible to dive all year round, hundreds of divers do, but for most the adverse weather and sea conditions are not too appealing. |
