Ireland has an equable climate with temperatures fairly uniform all over the country. The climate is influenced by the Gulf Stream, the prevailing winds mostly coming from the south-west. In winter can get quite cold, but it's never unbearable. The coldest months are January and February with average daily air temperatures of between around 4C and 7C. July and August are the hottest months, with temperatures between 14C and 16C and May and June are normally the sunniest. Ireland, with good weather, is a paradise.
It rains quite a lot here. Average annual rainfall is between 800 and 1200mm in low lying areas but in mountainous areas it can exceed 2000mm. It ranges from less than 750mm in some eastern parts of the country to 1500mm in parts of the west. The rains are responsible for the brilliant green colour of the landscape. |
