There are literally thousands of cycling routes that you can take; routes that will take you through forest tracks and rough lanes, around lush green farmlands, overlooking magnificent coastlines and idyllic lakes…
Cycling is also a leisurely way of getting to know the people and culture. Most organized tours will normally stop off at a small villages along the way, where you’ll get a chance to meet the locals and sample a piece of rural Ireland.
Whether you’re an experienced cyclist or a beginner, you’ll find a route or an itinerary that suits you perfectly. There’s so many!. Cycling tours are available for round trips, or one-way journeys. Bringing your own bike isn’t a problem. Most cycle tours will keep you on the back roads so you can enjoy the spectacular scenery and not have to worry about the heavy road traffic.
Organized cycling tours normally last for about eight days. They cover: accommodation and breakfast, bicycle hire, guide, luggage transfer, back-up vehicle, maps and tour insurance.
There are also a number of charity based cycles that take place during the year in Ireland. They range in distance from 25km to 600km and take place over the course of one to two days. They normally involve some kind of fundraising on behalf of the participant.
In Ireland, you can take you bike on the train. The country is so small that you can literally travel al the way round it via a mixture of bike and train in a few days. For example from coast to coast (Dublin to Galway) it’s only 135 miles, 216 kms. Get the train to Athlone (half way) then cycle the rest of the way. You’ll easily be there in day!
